Just 5 Things My House Edition
I’m slowly filling in gaps in our new house and here is what I’ve had my eye on recently…

We need some new andirons for our family room fireplace and I missed this item at an auction and am still kicking myself. I love the swirl detail, makes them feel less serious.
$30 Brass Andirons of My Dreams

We have an old McKenzie Dove piece in our bedroom above my dresser and I am looking at lamps to put on the dresser, so I have been on a mod-task-light-deep-dive

Speaking of lamps, I can’t get enough of the Terri lamp from Visual Comfort. I sometimes get tired of lamps and fixtures I see all the time, but lately this lamp (in all 3 sizes) seems to be the right answer for so many of my projects. I prefer the crystal base. I have the Terri tiny lamp in brass on our bookshelves in the family room. I felt like it was silly to buy the same lamp with the crystal base to replace it, but I am going to pull the trigger. I plan to replace the cord with a twisted fabric cord and add a Danish style pleated shade. And that will justify my purchase!

Ok let’s talk seashells again. I stash fabrics I’m dying to use and I’ve been shopping my stash for my own house. I feel like I have a spot for everything I am dying to use except Fermoie’s Shell Grotto. This would be a tragedy to not use in my own house. The predicament was worth re-scheming over. I think what I’ve landed on is to use the marigold colorway for our formal living room. I plan to make white cotton-linen slipcovers for our upholstery pieces and hang white slubby linen relaxed romans just below the crown in this room. I’ll use the shell grotto as a long, loose accent pillow on the main sofa and use that marigold color as an accent fabric for the little side dining chairs we have in the room. We have two our four Venetian carved grotto chairs in here and one white vintage Bertoia chair that all need new little seat cushions. The simple white-and-yellow color scheme provides a good backdrop for our art collection, which is predominantly black and white in this room and a rush area rug keeps everything relaxed.

Lastly, I selected a basic little nickel towel ring by Emtek for our new powder room, but I want something quieter and smaller. Who wants emphasis on a towel ring? I almost considered just doing a hook (and I will probably start doing that sometimes on projects), but then I found these minimalist rings from a new-to-me little British home company. For hand towels, I actually use these soft herringbone fringed napkins. I hate a terry towel that ggets shabby over time (and is also probably too long for your “loud” towel ring anyways) and I also hate linen tea towels because, let’s be honest, They Do Not Dry Your Hands. I’ve had these napkins for years and just bought more to use in our primary bathroom as hand towels, as well.
That’s all for now xx
